Shrines are a special gameplay feature of BetaMC. They are shops of normally obtainable items like Tall Grass, Fire, Redstone Wire and Diamond Ore. A shrine randomly spawns around the overworld with its location being unknown. There are 24 shrines in total.

The Shriners Project
The Shriners are a group on the server trying to find every shrine, and set up a stargate to them. The diamond block donation shops and the main stargate can be accessed at spawn town to the left of the mall enterance.
