Survival Guide
This page serves as a guide to those joining BetaMC for the first time interested in learning some tips and tricks to survive and even thrive on the server. This guide will teach you tips and tricks for Beta 1.7.3, and some helpful things to note about BetaMC gameplay in particular.
Beta 1.7.3 Tips and Tricks
Crafting recipe differences
A couple of crafting recipes are different in beta Minecraft:
- Fences are crafted with 6 sticks, similar to trapdoors.
- Books are crafted with 3 paper, vertically.
- Stone buttons are crafted with 2 stone, vertically.
- Mushroom stew is crafted with red and brown mushrooms and a bowl, vertically.
Crop Trampling
In beta Minecraft, crops are very fragile, and break if you do not sneak (Shift) on farmland. You can prevent crop breakage by placing fences underneath the farmland, which allows you to walk and jump on crops without breaking them.
Funky block durability
Some blocks such as stairs and slabs don't always break the fastest with the tool one would expect.
- All slabs are best broken with a Pickaxe
- Wooden stairs and Crafting Tables are best broken with a Sword
- Wool is best broken with shears
In general, Swords break all blocks 15% faster than using no tool at all, so in cases where there is no specific tool, use a Sword.
Armor
In Beta 1.7.3, armor works quite differently. Each piece provides a certain amount of protection. (seen by the white icons opposite to your health) Iron and Diamond armor provide equal amounts of protection, but differ in durability. Therefore, for most applications, it's suggested that you only craft iron armor, and save diamonds for more important items, such as tools.
Just like in modern Minecraft, you can press F3 to open up the debug menu. This menu will show you a number of stats including your current coordinates, FPS, and an entity count. It will also put entity tags above any entity in your render distance. This can be used essentially as a radar. Very useful for locating spawners!
Fragile Boats
Boats are very fragile in this version, if you hit an obstacle at too fast of a speed, your boat will break into two planks, and two sticks. (not enough to craft another boat unfortunately...) One can avoid this by paying attention to water particles that appear from the back of the boat when travelling at full speed. If you slow down your boat by hitting the S key, the water particles will stop when you are going slow enough to collide with obstacles without breaking your boat.
BetaMC Tips
Home Commands
You can set a home using the command:
/sethome {home name}
You can then teleport back to the home you set by typing:
/home {home name}
You can remove unwanted homes by using the command:
/delhome {existing home name}
As of now, all players have 5 home slots to use. More homes will eventually be gained with more playtime, but this feature is currently in development.
Villages
Villages are used to claim land and protect it from griefing. You can create a village by typing the command:
/village create {village name}
When you create your village, it will claim the chunk you are standing in. You can claim more chunks for $25.00 each by using the command:
/village claim
More village related commands can be found by typing the command:
/village help {owner/assistant/member}
Making Money
There are two main ways you can make money on BetaMC:
- Killing hostile mobs - Killing any hostile mob will give you 2-3 dollars each.
Hint: killing creepers with a wooden sword can net you up to 5 dollars. and selling items.
- Selling Items - You can create your own shop to sell to other players or you can sell items at the Admin shop located at:
/warp shop
.
Stacking the Unstackable
You can use the chestshop plugin to stack items that wont normally stack. Create a shop sign next to a chest you own and you can sell to yourself the items you wish to stack. Use this template and change it according to your needs.
